Each month we shall publish a step-by-step Tokreen project - one in English and one in Afrikaans.
This will give you the opportunity to experiment with the application possibilities of Tokreen.
July project: Tin vase
YOU WILL NEED:
500ml black Tokreen
3 x clean, empty tins
Seeds & leaves for decoration
Metallic paints: copper, gold & silver
Enough river sand/stones to fill 1 tin
Fill the first tin with stones or sand. This will stabilise the vase. Place the second tin on top of it. Remove the bottom of the last tin and place on top. Use Tokreen as glue to join the tins.
Cover the joints with a thin strip of hessian, cloth or masking tape to keep the tins together.
Paint the tins on the in- and outside with black Tokreen. Allow to dry.
Paint the tins with another layer of Tokreen and cover the tins with hessian, cloth or t-shirt material. Paint over the material to make it stick to the tins.
Soak a piece of hessian or material in diluted Tokreen (2 parts water: 1 part Tokreen) and make a ribbon with the hessian or t-shirt material. Attach to the tins with Tokreen by pressing it firmly for a few minutes. You can use thin strips of plastic to hold the ribbon in position until it sets. Remove the strips when dry.
Paint the seeds, leaves and objects with Tokreen and attach to the tin vase. Place youre objects the way you like them and attach them with Tokreen. Tie strings/plastic strips around it to hold the objects in place. Allow to dry. Once dry, turn the vase upside down and also decorate the other side, if you like.
Paint the whole article with a final layer of Tokreen and allow to dry.
Paint the objects with the metal paints in the color you like.
